     The total number of calories your child burns each day is determined by your child's resting metabolic rate (RMR), his/her general activity level throughout the day, and his/her set exercise sessions.

    
Whenever you move, you burn energy (i.e. calories).  The more you move, the more calories are burned.  Your child's general activity level throughout the day accounts for more burned calories than set exercise sessions.  Any increase in movement will help with weight loss.  Dr. Dolgoff will suggest many subtle ways to increase your child's general activity level to maximize calorie burning.

     A fitness regimen will be formulated for your child at the third visit and will be based on your child's specific interests, skills, and needs.  A personal trainer who specializes in child and adolescent fitness will be availabe to come to your home and work with your child. 

     Exercise is vital as it not only burns calories but also increases lean body mass, which increases metabolic rate.  It is imperative that your child begins an exercise regimen under the guidance of someone who is trained to teach children proper form and to help build their endurance at the appropriate rate.
